Luella - Falling on Hard Times

I peered over the shoulder of a commuter on a crowded morning train to have a gander at this eyebrow raising headline - 'Luella Bartley is latest fashion victim of recession'. How could this be? But it seems even Luella cannot escape the cold clutches of the economic climate. Due to one of the companies main suppliers closing and consequently orders dropping it concluded with one of her backers withdrawing and a number of people may loose their jobs.
I was very disappointed when I heard this news as Luella is by far my favourite designer and I've already written a couple of posts about her inspiring collections. I'm quietly confident that Bartley has enough contacts and is well connected enough to come up with something before the whole thing gets swallowed in to the ground by the recession whirlpool. I thought there was now a light at the end of the the economic crisis tunnel? Apparently not.
But I was cheered by seeing her extraordinary Spring 2010 collection - as innovative and colourful as ever. It definitely got me in the mood for spring (but I'm always hankering for warmer weather!) Prim and proper just as I like fashion but with a modern flirtatious twist. I adore the little red fitted pea coat and the shift dresses with low heeled court shoes and topped off with a pretty bow plonked in the middle of the head - I know what's going to be influencing me as soon as the winter's over. You go Luella - I have a feeling you are a pillar of strength in this turbulent time.

Sunday Sounds: David Bowie - Moonage Daydream (1971)
Last week I asked everyone if they had a favourite track they'd like to suggest for Sunday Sounds and blogger Megan said she'd love to hear a Bowie song. So I've chosen Moonage Daydream which is also the title of her blog - you should definitely check it out as it is a wonderful read. Megan's been commenting for a while now but she recently started writing her own blog, which I was very pleased to see.
I think Bowie is a good choice as a lot of people have made comments on how much they love his music. So I hope that this song in a favourite for lots of other bloggers too. I'm only recently getting more in to his music (shameful I know!) and he has the most exquisite voice.
A man who I used to work for met Bowie once at a gig when he was a teenager and he said he'd never been attracted to another man until that day. He said he was the most beautiful bloke he'd ever seen. Well there you go - beautiful voice, beautiful man. Sounds like the perfect Sunday Sound choice to me.
Hope you enjoy it - happy Sunday everyone!

I really can't believe that we've hit November. Not only that but Christmas is just around the corner - eeek! Just the other day we were posting up the Autumn/Winter preview for the shop and now we're planning the Christmas one - crumbs!
It's been a really beautiful Autumn this year. I'm sure it's just the same as any really but I was in LA last year so missed the whole occasion. But all of a sudden the temperature has has dropped and it's freezing! Out with the old faux fur vintage coat it is then - the only way to stay warm and glamorous I think. Though I must say that when I saw these pictures I thought I looked like a bag lady. But some bag ladies can be glamorous, can't they? Sort of? Well at least it's kind of following the whole Russian inspiration thing that I'm in to right now.
And what's that tapestry beauty hanging from my arm you may ask? Well I'm sad to say that it is not mine. It is in fact in the shop right now, but at least I got to hold it for a while, right?

Russian Revolution

(Russian style pictures scanned from The Daily Telegraph)
It seems that even though I've not been posting that regularly recently the posts I do put up follow on from a previous one in a sort of sequel. This happens to be one of those.
You might remember from some weeks ago I did a post called 'Hot to Trotsky' about Russian inspired fashion? It seems I was on the ball with this trend as I've seen quite a number of Russian resembling collections splashed across fashion pages. But most excitingly I found this little beauty, in Primark of all places, but I just couldn't resist turning down the hat of my dreams despite it going against my ethics of buying mostly second hand clothing and vintage.
And isn't it just perfect? It is exactly what I had been hoping to find (and not with a hefty price tag either). I did come across a vintage one that I liked the look of, but when I tried it on it made my noggin look like a cone-head as it was pointy for some reason - I definitely wasn't in to that. I'll be on the look out for a muffler next - or maybe that would be taking it a bit too far?
Sunday Sounds: The Beatles - Blackbird (1968)
This week I've chosen another one of my favourite tracks, 'Blackbird' by The Beatles. We've already had The Beatles a while back but I thought as they are quite possibly the best band in history that it would be excusable to have another classic from the mop haired lads from Liverpool.
I also wanted to apologise for not being so present on the bloggersphere recently and I am truly sorry to not replying to comments as I usually do. It's no excuse really but the shop has been extremely hectic recently and with Christmas approaching us at a rapid pace there seems to be infinite amounts to do. But I absolutely love reading your comments and appreciate them so much, they mean a lot to me. Next week I plan to get back in to the swing of blogging again and I will be replying to everyone who has commented - thank you for your patience!
Also, I've been thinking recently that instead of me choosing all the songs each week that I like (greedy!) I would really love to hear from you what your favourite golden oldie songs are and why they're special to you. If you'd like to have a song featured as a Sunday Sound then drop me a comment and I'd be so happy to post up why it means something to you. Or maybe you just really like the song and don't have a reason, doesn't matter, what ever you like.
Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!
